The following summer camps are available for youth age 4-12 at the Raleigh Little Theatre complex, 301 Pogue Street, Raleigh. Camps are week-long.

Playtime (half-day camp)

For ages 4–6

There’s no telling what kind of theatre magic might happen when young, great pretenders meet in this exciting summer camp! Through the use of drama, art and movement, students will explore fun possibilities, gain confidence and develop a sense of creative teamwork. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Young Playwrights! (half-day camp)

For ages 6-8

Students will experience the magic of creating an original show by using improvisational theater games to create and perform in their own mini-play based on a theme chosen by the class. The camp will end with a final performance of our work. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Creative Storytellers! (full-day camp)

For ages 6–8

In this fun-filled camp students will create stories and act them out all in one week! Using theatre games, exercises and movement, students will create original theatre stories. Then, after turning those stories into scripts, they will learn acting skills needed to bring a story to life for the stage. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Imagination Station (full-day camp)

For ages 7-9

There are different ways to tell a story but it all begins at the same place—the Imagination Station. All Aboard!!! The first stop in the mornings is Once Upon A Dance. Students will explore dance and movement as a source for story ideas and expression. Then it’s on to Once Upon A Book in the afternoon, where students will create their own storybook complete with illustrations. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Creative Players (half-day camp)

For ages 7–9

There’s more to being in a play than just wearing a costume on a stage under hot lights. Actors need to rehearse. They learn lines. They practice using their bodies and voices to become characters. Using scripted material, young actors will learn skills needed to bring a story to life. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Theatre Arts Camp (full-day camp)

For ages 6–12

Have fun! Make friends! Exercise your imagination as you play and learn! Act out a story, sing a song, dance to the music, become a mime and create a masterpiece all in one week! Each day begins with a large group activity of theatre games. Then smaller groups will attend daily workshops in acting, singing, art and dance. Students will be placed into smaller groups according to age. Just bring your lunch, two snacks, your imagination and a willingness to give it a try! No previous experience necessary. Limit 64 students.

Let's Put On a Play (full-day camp)

For ages: 9-11

Using fun theatre games and improvisation, students will put their heads together to create an original script. Upon completion they will then learn what it takes to perform it for an audience! No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Sing It Out! (half-day camp)

For ages 9-12

Do you like to act? Do you love to sing? Then this camp is for you! Students will learn the skills needed to bring a mini-musical to life on the stage. No previous experience necessary. Limit 12 students.

Rats! The Story of the Pied Piper! The town of Hamelin is overrun with them and all the citizens are in a tizzy, until the mysterious Pied Piper appears, offering to solve their dilemma for a small fee.

At the Bandstand! When the hit show, At the Bandstand, announces an on-air dance-off to join the popular Bandstand Kids, Cindy and her gaggle of friends jump at the chance!

Kids on Stage (full-day two-week camp)

For ages 10-14

Dear Edwina Jr. Written in a “show-within-a-show” format, Dear Edwina Jr. is the perfect “girl power” musical for a new generation. Dear Edwina Jr. follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly "Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends through clever, catchy and poignant songs. A bare-bones performance will take place for invited friends and family on the last day of camp at 4 pm. No previous experience necessary. Limit 25 students.

Note: This is a two-week camp.

Devised Theatre! (half-day camp) NEW!

For ages 10-14

In this exciting new camp, participants will create original, theatrical works inspired by their own experiences, using found objects, art and music. Utilizing improvisation to explore characters and scenarios, each member of the class will contribute to the creation of a new work. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Imaginative Improv! (half-day camp) NEW!

For ages 11-14

Knowing how to play, be spontaneous, and trust one’s instincts are valuable skills every acting student must develop. In this exciting improvisation camp, students will learn how to work on their feet, developing characters and stage presence by making confident and committed choices. Discover the joy of group teamwork and play. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Playwriting 101 (full-day camp) NEW!

For ages 11-14

This camp is for the writer in all of us! Participants will practice the fundamental principles of dramatic writing: creating characters, dramatizing conflict and finding one's own voice and vision on stage. Students will work individually and in a group to create a written script that will then be directed by students and performed. This class is perfect for anyone who is interested in creative writing, the art of theatre, or who loves to tell stories. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Poetry, Songs and Stage! (half-day camp) NEW!

For ages 11-14

Adapting a text for performance is a unique process. Students will be lead through a technical approach to the written materials – re-imagining, altering, emphasizing and/or eliminating aspects – to create a successful staged performance. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Keep 'em Laughing! (full-day camp)

For ages 12–13

Students will explore ways to keep the audience laughing whether it’s through witty banter or as simple as slipping on a banana peel. In the mornings students will explore the world of physical comedy using improvisation. In the afternoons students will learn to create characters and tell stories that are dynamic, funny and totally believable through the use of scripted scenes and original material created by the class. Students should wear comfortable clothing allowing for movement and closed-toe shoes. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

From The Page To The Stage! (full-day camp)

For ages 12–13

Students will explore movement, music, improvisation, theatre games and creative writing as they create and perform a one of a kind script. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.
