Kids on Stage (full-day two-week camp)

For ages 10-14

Dear Edwina Jr. Written in a “show-within-a-show” format, Dear Edwina Jr. is the perfect “girl power” musical for a new generation. Dear Edwina Jr. follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly "Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends through clever, catchy and poignant songs. A bare-bones performance will take place for invited friends and family on the last day of camp at 4 pm. No previous experience necessary. Limit 25 students.

Note: This is a two-week camp.

Devised Theatre! (half-day camp) NEW!

For ages 10-14

In this exciting new camp, participants will create original, theatrical works inspired by their own experiences, using found objects, art and music. Utilizing improvisation to explore characters and scenarios, each member of the class will contribute to the creation of a new work. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Imaginative Improv! (half-day camp) NEW!

For ages 11-14

Knowing how to play, be spontaneous, and trust one’s instincts are valuable skills every acting student must develop. In this exciting improvisation camp, students will learn how to work on their feet, developing characters and stage presence by making confident and committed choices. Discover the joy of group teamwork and play. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Playwriting 101 (full-day camp) NEW!

For ages 11-14

This camp is for the writer in all of us! Participants will practice the fundamental principles of dramatic writing: creating characters, dramatizing conflict and finding one's own voice and vision on stage. Students will work individually and in a group to create a written script that will then be directed by students and performed. This class is perfect for anyone who is interested in creative writing, the art of theatre, or who loves to tell stories. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Poetry, Songs and Stage! (half-day camp) NEW!

For ages 11-14

Adapting a text for performance is a unique process. Students will be lead through a technical approach to the written materials – re-imagining, altering, emphasizing and/or eliminating aspects – to create a successful staged performance. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

Keep 'em Laughing! (full-day camp)

For ages 12–13

Students will explore ways to keep the audience laughing whether it’s through witty banter or as simple as slipping on a banana peel. In the mornings students will explore the world of physical comedy using improvisation. In the afternoons students will learn to create characters and tell stories that are dynamic, funny and totally believable through the use of scripted scenes and original material created by the class. Students should wear comfortable clothing allowing for movement and closed-toe shoes. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

From The Page To The Stage! (full-day camp)

For ages 12–13

Students will explore movement, music, improvisation, theatre games and creative writing as they create and perform a one of a kind script. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Teen Intensive: What's So Funny? (full-day camp)

For ages 14–18

Laughing out loud in theatre has been around since actors first stepped on stage. This camp will have students trying comedy throughout the ages from the Greek comedies to Commedia dell’arte to Shakespeare to today. Students will play with current comedy through short form improvisation and will learn on their feet by practicing laugh-out-loud short form structures. Experience comedy now and then and discover why humor has always been an essential ingredient in the human experience. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Teen Intensive: Commedia Scene Study (full-day camp) NEW!

For ages 14–18

How do you create believable characters? Why does a scene become more alive when the characters are so true to life? Discover the sheer joy and gratification that comes with knowing what your character wants, how you'll go about getting it, and actually doing it and living in the moment on stage. In a week filled with commedia dell arte, script analysis, and contemporary scene work, student actors will challenge and empower themselves to experience freedom on stage by thinking for themselves as artists, engaging their imaginations, and always moving through scenes with clear purpose. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

August 7-11, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm

Teen Intensive: Actor's Studio (full-day camp) NEW!

For ages 14–18

In this exciting camp, students will practice their responsibility to the text and the full realization of a character’s life within a scene. Students will learn how to make bold, specific choices that enable them to better connect to their characters’ inner lives and relationships. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.
